Imagine life in Bangalore without the Darshinis.
Where would you catch a quick breakfast before you set out for work or college?Where would you grab that coffee mid-afternoon?For ordinary folks it would become impossible without the fast,clean,inexpensive service that the friendly neighbourhood Darshini dishes out.There are 3,500 darshinis in Blore and feed more than 50lakh people every day.Prabhakar was the man who pioneered Darshinis in the city as far back as 1983.Inspired by the fast food chains abroad ,he set the first Darshini called 'Cafe Darshini' in Jaynagar and rest as they say is history.In the late 1990's,Gandhinagar witnessed huge traffic jams during lunch hours.That made front page news in newspapers because the cause
was unusual.A hotel had sprung up in the are that was offering a Bharjari oota and an icecream for Rs 10.The author behind this success story too was Prabhakar.The other laurels to his credit are 'Nammura Hotel' in Jp Nagar where the price is decided by the weight of the food;'Halli Mane' in Malleswaram the traditional food joint which serves authentic rural Karnataka food.His next project is to set up SugarCane Kiosks to provide good,hygienic juice at Rs 4 a glass.

Prabhakar,is a native of Kundapur,Udupi district and came to Bangalore for higher studies and later entered the hotel industry.
