MTR was started in the year 1924 by the grandfather of the current M.D. Hemamalini Maiya.MTR serves 15 different varieties of food in its famous lunch/dinner package. Apart from its lunch/dinner packages, the
Tiffins like Masala Dosa, Idlis, Bisibelebath, Kharabath, Chandrahara, Sandwiches, Coffee and lots more are THE items at MTR Restaurant.

The Rava Idli was invented by MTR. Faced with a shortage of rice during World War II, MTR's legendary cooks experimented with Sooji (Rava) and the rest is history! Today, they have a wide range of Instant Mixes ­ from Gulab Jamun and Payasam to Dosa and Vada. Created with culinary expertise built over 80 years, they delight millions of customers with their special, "home-made" taste.

When price controls were imposed as a result of the Emergency, they realized that it was impossible to continue to offer the quality that set them apart. They downed shutters — preferring to lose business rather than compromise on quality. They reopened only when they were sure that they could offer their customers food that was pure and perfect!

Over generations, the tradition has been maintained and passed on. MTR has not fallen behind in the era of technology and
innovation and has ventured into food processing and ready to eat items.

During my first visit to MTR, I had no clue about the menu or the waiting time. After a 1 hour wait, the co-ordinator led us to our table and then started the chain of dishes, as long as hanuman's tail. By the time desserts were served, I was full to the brim and could not get up from my chair.

It surely is a feast one should not miss!
